Stain Removal Guide BLOOD: Soak in cold water for 30 minutes. Spread on paste of cornstarch, cornmeal or talcum to dry. Brush away. CHEWING GUM: Rub with ice until gum flakes off. COFFEE & BLACK TEA: Stretch stained fabric, pour boiling water from 1-3 ft. above. EGG: Sponge on cold water (never hot!). FRUITS: Sponge with cold water. Pour salt or hot water on stain. Soak in milk & launder. GRASS: Sponge on diluted alcohol. If needed add, mild solution of hydrogen peroxide. GREASE: Pour boiling water from 1-3 ft. above & launder. For nonwashables, apply paste of baking soda, corneal or cornstarch. INK: Dab on rubbing alcohol & blot with cheesecloth. Work in concentrated ammonia, then apply vinegar. LIPSTICK: Rub with cold cream or shortening. Wash with club soda. MUSTARD: Work glycerin into stain. Flush with detergent (no soap!). NAIL POLISH: Sponge back of fabric with banana oil. Sponge rubbing alcohol w/drop of ammonia. PERSPIRATION: Use ammonia on fresh stains, vinegar on old stains. Hold over ammonia fumes to restore color. SCORCHED FABRIC: Rinse in cold water immediately. TOMATO SAUCE: Soak in cold water for 30 minutes. Work in undiluted liquid laundry detergent. WINE: Stretch stained fabric, pour boiling water from 1-3 ft. above. For nonwashables, apply cold water, sponge with glycerin & detergent, then apply a few drops of ammonia & detergent (if stain turns pink, apply white vinegar).
